Tim Penland
Tim Penland has been an artist for over fifty years. He started painting with oil in his late teens and eventually moved to watercolor, acrylics and pastels. He started doing graphite drawings about 16 years ago.
He has an Associates degree in mechanical drafting.
He has shown artwork in galleries in Estes Park, Longmont, Boulder, Allenspark, Manitou Springs, Canon City, Buena Vista, Cripple Creek, and Victor Colorado. He also has artwork in The Cheyenne Railroad Museum, The Cripple Creek District Museum and The Cripple Creek Heritage Center.
Tim’s other passion is model railroading, and along with his wife Sheri, built a diorama of the Cripple Creek and Victor Mining District displayed on the lower level of The Cripple Creek Heritage Center. Sheri and Tim also built a 1899 diorama of Victor, Colorado which is displayed at The Twin Flame Gallery in Victor. Tim built a diorama of The Caribou Mine for The Nederland Mining Museum.
Tim has been a member of The Cripple Creek Art Alliance since it was formed in 2018. He is one of the founding members.
Tim moved to Colorado in 1977 from Kansas City. He’s retired from the Boulder Post Office where he worked for 30 yrs. He and his wife Sheri moved to Florissant Colorado in 2004.
In May of 2023 Tim and Sheri moved to Canon City, Colorado.
He currently displays his artwork at The Twin Flame Gallery in Victor, CO, and The Artist Gallery in Canon City, Colorado. Tim also displays his art in several art shows in Cripple Creek and Victor, Colorado.
Tim received two awards in 2025 at Victor Celebrates the Arts. He also received second place in Paint the Town contest in Florence, Colorado, plus two patron awards. He received third place in drawing at The Colorado State Fair art contest. Tim also won first place in The Bell Tower Transportation art contest in Florence, CO.
